Facility Description

The Tailings Pipeline Installation at the Granites Process Plant, part of the Tanami Expansion 2 (TE2) project, is a critical infrastructure development to enhance the tailings management capabilities of Newmont Tanami Operations. Located in the remote Tanami Desert of the Northern Territory, Australia, the facility aims to improve the efficiency and safety of tailings disposal, ensuring compliance with environmental standards and supporting increased production demands.

Works Completed

HTS Constructions successfully completed the following works for the Tailings Pipeline Installation:

• Project Management
  • Developed and implemented a comprehensive project management plan, ensuring coordination between all phases of the project.
  • Liaised with Newmont’s management team to ensure alignment with project objectives and timelines.
• Site Preparation
  • Prepared the site for the installation of the tailings pipeline, including clearing, grading, and excavation as required.
  • Established necessary site facilities and ensured adequate power, water, and communication services.
• Pipeline Installation
  • Supplied and installed HDPE pipelines with diameters ranging from 450mm to 560mm, covering a total length of approximately 8.5 km.
  • Executed precise welding and jointing of the HDPE sections, ensuring robust and leak-proof connections.
  • Installed necessary supports, brackets, and fittings to ensure the stability and integrity of the pipeline.
  • Conducted pressure testing and inspection of the pipeline to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
• Safety and Compliance
  • Implemented rigorous safety protocols, including risk assessments, safety meetings, and compliance with Newmont’s safety standards.
  • Ensured all work was carried out in accordance with relevant Australian Standards and environmental regulations.
• Commissioning and Testing
  • Conducted comprehensive commissioning of the tailings pipeline system, including functional testing and performance verification.
  • Ensured seamless integration with the existing tailings management infrastructure at the Granites Process Plant.
