About Dan

Dan started his career as an electrical technician for the Australian Navy. This experienced forged his dedication and work ethic along with humility and leadership. After 10 years with the Navy, he took the role of Electrical supervisor for a Perth based company that provided integrated construction services to the mining industry. This role expanded to take him to multiple locations in Australia and overseas as the senior member of the electrical team and eventually the construction manager and project manager.

Dan has spent his career delivering difficult jobs in remote locations under extreme circumstances. He has a complete grasp of the requirements to deliver a project successfully from the conceptual discussions to the handover and training of the future users.

Projects

Construction Manager / Electrical supervisor

  • Installation of camp facilities and non-process infrastucture at various mine sites across Western Australia and Queensland:

    • Rio Tinto mines including Cape Lambert, West Angelas, Hope Downs and Brookman;

    • Rio Tinto town site Pannawonica;

    • BHP Billiton Mining Area C, Yandi and Redmont;

    • BHP/Technip Macedon Domestic Gas Plant;

    • BHP/Mitsubishi Alliance Peak Downs; and

    • Pilbara Minerals Pilgangoora

  • Various residential and commercial works in Metro Perth, Western Australia;

  • Construction and maintenance of remote facilities including staff accommodation, villages resident accommodation and supporting infrastructure. Works valued at $80 million AUD and performed on a remote Pacific island;

  • Construction and ongoing maintenance of a new hospital (surgery, paediatrics, imaging, in and out patient facilities, pathology, treatment clinics); and

  • Construction of new school, community centre, corrections facility, RO plant and sea water pump for island’s water supply.

Responsibilities

I was responsible for all site-based contact for the design, estimating and procurement of materials for the electrical department on the awarded $160 million worth of projects for my company. Whilst ensuring safety and and quality were at the forefront of my focus, I was required to have a clear understanding of the scope of works, budget and program whilst maintaining a high standard of company culture and work ethics. In particular I was required to:

  • Ensure all electrical works comply with Australian and international Standards;

  • Coordination of direct staff and subcontractors, labour, plant and material deliveries to site;

  • Ability to understand and assist updating of construction programs and developing a 4-week look ahead;

  • Complete understanding of scope of works to identify variations and TQ’s (Technical Queries);

  • Raising TQ’s, variations and notice of delays;

  • Support the Site Management Team with application of Project Specific Management Plans, HSE Management Plans, QA (Quality Assurance);

  • Record, manage and document all changes of design and ensure engineering sign-off; and

  • Completion of QA site inspections with client representatives and management of quality documentation ITPs (Inspection and Test Plans) and check sheets.
